Girls don't do that! Cross your legs! Wait your turn! When are you getting married? Your career...what about your kids? Ouff! Like many of you, that's just a fraction of a fraction of the things that were told to me as I grew up in a male dominant world. And of course, the things I heard as I started having children. I have faced the tiniest effects of gender inequality, to some of the most impactful. As a Mother of two incredible girls and an Aunt to the coolest young man, I didn't want them to continue experiencing the same. A creator and an ecologist since forever, Mélanie Girard-Brisson started Flowerink in 2017 to promote stationary items that are environmentally friendly. She always was a true lover of all stationery items, so she really wanted to create something she could share with the people that had the same passion. That’s the reason she decided to create greeting cards that were plantable and compostable. Further in the process, she decided to create other stationery items (banners, calendars, gift tags ). Herbs are even a new thing you can get by planting a card from Flowerink. Isn’t that magic when art meets environment? Art is really important for us and we always try to offer product that resonate with that. Mélanie is an artist that mostly uses water-colour in her designs.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

About two years ago, Cory and I decided to start Awoke N' Aware, a brand makes our wardrobe look better and the planet feel better. After working long days at our 9 to 5s, we come home to our little condo in downtown Toronto to dedicate every ounce of free time to develop this brand. A brand, we believe, can protect vulnerable wildlife, and really make a difference for our planet. A brand that will make a positive impact on the environment and save wildlife. Jamie and Isabelle, the co-founders, met at McGill University, where they both pursued degrees in Dietetics and Nutrition. Throughout their years at McGill, they went from being strangers to dorm neighbours, from classmates to roommates, artisan fair vendors to being best friends and finally, the creators of Remix Snacks.<\/p>\n\n

After those whirlwind four years, they found themselves suddenly in the final year of their degree, yet there was one last thing they wanted to do before graduating: enter the McGill Startup Competition: the Dobson Cup. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

As soon-to-be dietitians, there are two problems they saw as part of the health and food industry:<\/p>\n\n

Canadians are starting to resort to convenience when it comes to eating, in fact \u2153 of us are starting to replace one of our meals with a snack. If we look at the available snack options, there are rarely any that meet our healthy snack criteria of high fibre, high protein, low sugar and no additives. This combination helps keep you full, while minimizing refined an unnatural ingredients.<\/li>\n\t
More than 58% of food produced in Canada is wasted, with 45% of it coming from what we call “imperfect fruit”- good quality apples that are not perfectly red, juicy peaches that are deformed etc.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n
They knew that they could create a nutritious, healthy snack to fill these voids, that also used these fruits to reduce food waste. As they started to test different recipes in their apartment kitchen in between classes and clinical internships, trying to master the chocolate-tempering process and fruit-drying rotations, often waking up at 3am to rotate batches! They finally had the first iteration of their snack, Beanbark. This is where healthy chocolate met high protein, high fibre snacks.<\/p>\n\n
They won two prizes at this ideation phase, and effectively launched Remix Snacks as an operating start-up, beginning their journey as entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n

Hello everyone, my name is Kayla. I am an artist, a writer, a vintage lover, and I am a cancer survivor. When I was 21 I was diagnosed with stage 3 blood cancer. After 9 months of difficult treatment, I found out that I had relapsed with a mutated rare cancer called grey zone lymphoma. I underwent another year of treatment including a stem cell transplant that ultimately ended up saving me. I have been in remission since 2016, and I have taken my second chance at life to share my story through my business.<\/p>\n\n
As a survivor, or rather a thriver, I understand what it means to take a moment for myself and to make myself a priority. Thus, the birth of Simple Ritual. With love from my kitchen, I craft these candles, making sure each one burns clean with warmth, wellbeing, and kindness. It started off as a part of my healing and my love for holistic health practices, and now I want to share it with my community.<\/p>\n\n

As the founder of an international youth humanitarian organization, Christal Earle had been working and learning from a local community of garbage dump workers since 2005 on the north coast of Dominican Republic.

\nAmong everything else in that garbage dump, there was also an overwhelming amount of tires. They were a breeding ground for mosquitoes carrying deadly diseases and they were a toxic nightmare.
\n
\nIn 2010, an unexpected turn of events in Christal’s journey left her facing the fact that she was going to have to rebuild her life between two countries. She was now torn between Canada, where her career was based, and the Dominican Republic where her adopted daughter couldn’t leave.

\nIf you want to return for any other reason, you have the option to do so However, please note that we apply a $10 shipping\/restock fee to each returned item. This amount will be held back from the refund of your original order you are returning.

The story of Wrappr begins in February 2019. My partner and I welcomed our baby girl into the world during that month and despite the fact that we did not have a baby shower we did receive a tonne of presents from friends and family. All of which were gifted in one-time-use wrapping paper and bags, with, to be honest, some pretty tacky and ugly artwork.<\/p>\n\n
At the very same time that I was giving birth to our little girl, my brother and his girlfriend were in Japan on vacation. They picked up a few gifts and souvenirs as you do on holiday and amongst all the very intelligently designed and beautifully decorated gifts were some furoshiki fabric wraps.<\/p>\n\n
Over the next few euphoric and blurry weeks ahead, all of the wrapping paper and bags had been kicked around the house. I held on to them in the hope that they would someday become useful to me and I would think of some way to reuse them. Despite all my delays, they all eventually ended up in the place that they were designed to go - on the curb in a garbage bin. ‘If only they were recyclable’, I thought. But the dyes and plastic coatings on the bags and paper had robbed that opportunity. I could have reused the bags eventually, but it always felt a bit tacky to me to give someone a gift in a bag that has wrinkles and creases from previous use. And after all, the artwork was terrible. I wasn’t looking forward to reusing these ugly bags, and I was only thinking of doing it to avoid the sheer guilt of throwing them out.<\/p>\n\n
With a newborn baby in my arms, my knowledge of what was going on in the world had definitely diminished. I was no longer spending my morning commute reading news articles and having casual conversations with coworkers about the latest news or scandal. Despite this, I was aware of the heightened attention that the climate crisis was getting worldwide. In the coming months, I heard about school children on strike from their classrooms and protesting to politicians and leaders who they believed had failed them and were robbing them of their future.<\/p>\n\n
At a time like this, why was anyone producing anything that could only be used one time?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
And then if that isn’t enough, a product that has no opportunity to be recycled or composted, its destiny is a landfill. It felt ironic that our friends and family were celebrating the beginning of this new life by giving something that was damaging to our daughter’s longevity, survival and quality of life.<\/p>\n\n
So some months went by and as our little girl grew and our arms became free again we began to reorganize our home. Our girl had already grown out of her entire wardrobe and as I was moving things around the house, into storage or out the door to be donated, the furoshiki fabric wraps that my brother had picked up in Japan were still there. They were still intact, they had no wrinkles or creases, and they still had the gorgeous Japanese artwork and designs.<\/p>\n\n
The furoshiki wraps were the perfect alternative to wasteful wrapping paper. They were reusable, simple and also incredibly beautiful. The artwork stood out to me and it all became clear that sharing artwork through gifting was another solution for artists looking to get more eyes on their work.<\/p>\n\n
These two problems - and solutions - were the inspiration for a new brand of gift wrap called Wrappr. Our missions are to eliminate the waste created by gifting and to support real artists.<\/p>\n\n
We plan to do this by providing a no-waste alternative decorated with original artwork by independent artists. The artwork is chosen based on its versatility for multiple occasions and celebrations and the artists get a cut of every sale of their own prints. We make shampoo and conditioner bars, and laundry strips. Each shampoo and conditioner bar replaces up to 3 bottles of shampoo or conditioner. Each 30-load package of laundry strips prevents a one litre from entering the landfill and reduces the carbon footprint of laundry by 94%!<\/p>\n\n
Our packaging and shipping materials are always plastic free and as sustainable as possible. Our shampoo and conditioner bars packages are made from recyclable millboard, a by-product of the paper industry, and non-GMO corn foam, which washes safely down the sink. The entire package is 82% compostable and 18% recyclable. Our laundry strip packaging is both compostable and recyclable. We ship with recycled boxes, paper tape, and non-GMO corn foam packing peanuts.<\/p>\n\n

All online orders are shipped via Canada Post and are sent out within 1–2 business days (Monday to Friday) of being received, with the exception of public holidays.<\/p>\n\n

We used design thinking to create a carrying solution for water and coffee based on how we live today. Made to always have your cup with you, and to be able to carry both in one hand, the Hitch Bottle and Cup fits into your life. Our products are crafted using high quality, food-grade and BPA-free materials, all while being easy to clean and care for.<\/p>\n\n

With the support of over 25,000 backers in 105 countries, it became the most backed reusable ever.
